Oriental Renewable Solutions & GreenWish Partners Agree 50 MW Solar PV project

Oriental Renewable Solutions, a subsidiary of the Oriental Group, has formed a 50:50 equity partnership with GreenWish Partners to co-develop a 50 MW solar PV project in Jigawa State, Nigeria.

Oriental has already signed a 20-year, dollar denominated Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trader (NBET) in July 2016.

The Jigawa solar project will have an output of around 96 GWh per year and will create 300 jobs during construction and 25 permanent jobs during operations.

UN CERF Allocates $22 Million To Nigeria’s Humanitarian Needs

According to Mr. Abiodun Banire, the spokesman for the United Nations (UN) Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), Nigeria has received the largest allocation of $22 million from the $100 million so far released for January (2017) towards prioritising food and nutrition, health, shelter, and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) assistance to people hit by crisis in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.

The Fund was part of the efforts to cover for funding shortfalls impacting response activities across nine most neglected crises globally.

2.1 Million Euros EU Small Arms Project Grant

As parts of its commitment towards ending the proliferation of small arms, Nigeria has been integrated into the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and European Union (EU) small arms project.

The country will also benefited from a special European Union (EU) grant of 2.1 million euros.

According to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in Nigeria, Ms. Mandisa Mashalogu;

“ECOWAS and EU small arms project is being implemented in six African countries and after the launch of the Nigerian component, we are going to have Nigeria as the seventh country in the project.”
