Oriental Renewable Solutions & GreenWish Partners Agree 50 MW Solar PV project

Oriental Renewable Solutions, a subsidiary of the Oriental Group, has formed a 50:50 equity partnership with GreenWish Partners to co-develop a 50 MW solar PV project in Jigawa State, Nigeria.

Oriental has already signed a 20-year, dollar denominated Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trader (NBET) in July 2016.

The Jigawa solar project will have an output of around 96 GWh per year and will create 300 jobs during construction and 25 permanent jobs during operations.

Power Africa Adds 30,000 New Solar Connections In Nigeria

In a statement by U.S Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington, the U.S energy project known as “Power Africa’’ has added 30,000 new solar connections in Nigeria.

U.S. through its Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) had in 2016 signed an agreement with Lumos, an off-grid electricity provider to enhance provision of solar electricity to homes and small businesses throughout Nigeria.

Lumos was also a recipient of catalytic funding through OPIC and the Africa Clean Energy Finance initiative, a partner with the U.S. State Department.

The funding provided crucial start-up capital for 30 innovative clean energy projects across 10 African countries.

2016 ECOWAS Regional Certification Scheme for Sustainable Energy Skills – Solar PV Installers

The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) in cooperation with the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) and with support from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and other partners invites training institutions from ECOWAS member states to participate in a new regional certification programme for solar PV installers. The programme aims at introducing a quality mark for solar PV installers that is recognized by professionals and end users across borders in all 15 ECOWAS member states.
