UNICEF Trains 24 Health Workers on Malnutrition

According to the United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Nutrition Specialist, Walton Beckley, UNICEF has trained 24 health workers in Borno, on measures to prevent malnutrition among Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.

Beckley explained that the training was to teach mothers and caregivers ways to utilise their meagre resources to provide adequate nutrition for the children.

He said also that the objective was to sensitise health workers in IDPs camps so they in turn could use the information to educate mothers on how to prevent malnutrition in their children or wards.

World Bank Approves $200 Million Loan for Nigerian Farmers

The World Bank has approved a $200 million loan to Nigeria to support the government’s effort to boost small and mid-scale farmers.

The loan from the International Development Association, the Bank’s low-interest arm, has a maturity of 25 years with a grace period of five years.

According to the Bank,

“Priority value chains will include products with potential for immediate improvement of food security, products with a potential for export and foreign currency earnings.

The funds will help tackle low yields, lack of seed capital to set up agro-factories, low-level adoption of technology and limited access to markets.

About 60,000 individuals will benefit directly from the funding, of which 35 percent are women. About 300,000 farming households will be affected indirectly.”

UK DFID & MNCH2 Donate 70 Million Naira Worth Hospital Equipment To Yobe State Government

The Department for International Development (DFID) and Maternal and Neonatal Child Health 2 (MNCH2) have delivered hospital equipment worth 70 million Naira to Yobe state Government.

Delivering the equipment, the team leader Zanna Ali, he remarked,

“The equipment we are delivering to Yobe state cost is worth 70 million Naira and they are aimed at equipping our primary healthcare hospitals across the state”.
