$67 Million World Bank Loan Accessed to Rehabilitate Hadejia Valley Dam

The Federal Government of Nigeria has accessed a $67 million World Bank loan to rehabilitate Hadejia Valley Dam in Jigawa to boost irrigation, water supply and fish farming in the area.

$60 million would be used to rehabilitate and expand the dam by 1,000 hectares and $7 million would be spent on dredging of the river from Tiga Dam in Kano State to Koli in Kirikasama Local Government Area of Jigawa.

The project execution is expected to commence by the end of first quarter.

As part of its commitment to address the menace of gully erosion in the southeastern part of Nigeria, the World Bank has effectively reclaimed erosion site covering more than 4,000 hectares of land in Obizi autonomous community in Ezinihitte Local Council of Imo State
