$67 Million World Bank Loan Accessed to Rehabilitate Hadejia Valley Dam

The Federal Government of Nigeria has accessed a $67 million World Bank loan to rehabilitate Hadejia Valley Dam in Jigawa to boost irrigation, water supply and fish farming in the area.

$60 million would be used to rehabilitate and expand the dam by 1,000 hectares and $7 million would be spent on dredging of the river from Tiga Dam in Kano State to Koli in Kirikasama Local Government Area of Jigawa.

The project execution is expected to commence by the end of first quarter.

Nigeria has made the list of World Trade Organization (WTO) members to approve the Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA), which is expected to reduce trade costs by over 14% for low-income countries and more than 13% for upper middle-income countries by restructuring the flow of trade across borders.

The TFA contains a series of measures for expediting the movement, release and clearance of goods, including goods in transit across borders.

Besides Nigeria, other African countries that have approved the TFA are; Botswana, Niger, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Zambia, Lesotho, Mali, Senegal, Swaziland, Gabon, Ghana and Mozambique.

President Buhari Regrets Accidental Bombing In Borno, Condoles With Families Of The Dead

President Muhammadu Buhari has received with deep sadness and regret, the accidental bombing of a civilian community in Rann, Borno State, by the Nigerian Air Force, engaged in the final phase of mopping up insurgents in the North-east.

President Buhari condoles with families of the dead, wishes the wounded divine succour, leading to full recovery, and sympathizes with the Borno State government.

The President pledges federal help for the state government in attending to “this regrettable operational mistake,” and pleads for calm, even as he prays God to grant repose to the souls of the dead.
